All renewable energy comes from our sun
The sun radiates 174,423,000,000,000 kW of energy to the earth per hour. In other words, the earth receives 1.74 x 1014 kW of energy per hour. Let's make the most of it.
In the northern hemisphere we can harvest the energy directly through solar collectors. The sun heats the earth and air, so we can use heat pumps to multiply the effect. The sun also creates our weather patterns giving us wind and rain, so we can use wind energy and the potential in water.
And of course the plants use sunlight to regenerate, which means that biomass can provide us with fuel that is replaced as new trees and crops grow.
In the UK we get varying amounts of solar energy over the year. Take a look at the Solar Calculations to find out how much.
